Check the rest of your annual return

Do you also have a job, pension, savings, dividends or other income and reliefs? These may need annual-return features that are not ready yet.

HMRC’s “In development” status means the provider has committed to building the feature in time for the 2026/27 tax return. It does not mean you can use it today.

Also on the listing: Free version and HMRC Assist (Submission Feedback) are not included. Software type: web browser; listed for Windows, Mac OS and Linux, in English. View the current HMRC listing ↗

What happens next

A clear first step.
Then one thing at a time.

  1. Create your trial account

Take a look around and check that the available features suit your business or property records.

  2. Check your HMRC enrolment

Your Avona account does not enrol you in MTD. Check your HMRC position and authorise your software before submitting.

  3. Bring in and review your records

Set up the records for your income sources, check the figures and review what is due before sending an update.

Before you take the next step

A few things you might be wondering.

Is Avona the software I saw on HMRC’s list?

Yes. This is the Avona website linked from HMRC’s Making Tax Digital for Income Tax software directory. You can reopen the listing below to compare its feature statuses. Avona is an independent software provider.

Can I try it before paying?

Yes. Full access for 7 days. No credit card required. The trial lets you explore the available software. Avona Lite is £15/month and Pro is £20/month. The free trial is separate from a permanent free version, which is not offered.

Does ready for quarterly updates mean my whole tax return is ready?

No. Quarterly reporting and annual-return features have separate statuses on HMRC’s listing. Employment, pensions, interest, dividends and other annual-return items are currently in development. Check the features you need with us before choosing Avona for your full annual return.

Will creating an Avona account sign me up with HMRC?

No. An Avona account, HMRC MTD enrolment and authorising software are separate steps. Check your enrolment with HMRC and follow the connection steps before submitting. You can explore the trial first without treating that as a tax submission.

Can my accountant help me use it?

Avona’s HMRC listing includes both individual and agent software. Talk to your accountant about how you will share the work and who will submit.
